Montauk in Winter

We're a big fan of Montauk in any season, but the tip of Long Island can be a particularly relaxing, sedate getaway in the dead of winter.  (It's cheaper to stay out there too.)  And did you know there's ice-skating at the lighthouse?

Must Visit:
The Montauket Restaurant and Bar  We flag this as a must visit for the great coast and sunset views and highly recommend visiting for at least a drink, if not dinner one night.  The decor is a bit divey, but the character and the views more than make up for this.

New York Times Recommends 31 Places to Go This Summer

The New York Times came out with an excellent new feature today -- a list of 31 places to visit for the summer traveler.  The list is very geographically diverse, with destinations ranging from Scottsdale to Manitoba.  Curiously, LBJ's Texas Hill Country is listed as number 1 -- the paper bestows many superlatives on the region including "lush,"  "colorful" and "like Tuscany or the South of France."  Who knew? 

Closer to home, Montauk makes the list at number 7.
